Question: Can the BCM 'start to deteriorate'? Can just one/a few things go wrong? Or is it just broken and zip works.
Only ask as in the service manual under interior lighting Holden run a few fault finds, and if no wiring issue they say - replace BCM. They do it alot!

most companies default to if you cant figure it out, replace computer
then when that doesnt fix it
it is up to others to diagnose it
the bcm is a complex item and just one circuit may fail. or multiple faults

Can he just by pass the bcm?

I know you can by pass the bcm for power windows in the vt. Though my p/w do go through the bcm & work.

op has not mentioned a specific fault, just a vague question
but yes a lot of bcm functions can be bypassed with some creative wiring

Yeah thx all - I was just posing the specific BCM question for now as i'm investigating why certain interior lights do not currently work. I won't repeat the detail of the original post. You'll find it here.

I finally got around to investigating this properly and must admit i'm stumped thus far.
I've checked bulbs/fuses and the wiring inside headlining looks fine (but understand this can be misleading without proper testing). I asked a trusted mechanic and although he doesn't do electrics detail he mentioned that if I find nothing wrong elsewhere I might want to check the BCM as it all goes through that.

Thing is, there is a relationship here. The lights I mentioned in linked post seem to be along same line (circuit). Have got a Multimeter, but I'm certainly no sparky. I think i'm going to have to bite the bullet and go to an Auto Elec. I'd really like to solve it (if for no other reason than try to understand how it works!) but understand my limitations in this area.
