Hey guys, can the gurus please tell me what the below is and it’s job? I’m talking the thingi with the white plastic stripe down the middle. I thought behind the cab filter was just the fan - quite obviously I’m wrong. (The cabin filter is removed here). I can see the fan behind this as I can pivot it up. I thought it might be an extra filter but it’s plastic - so how does the fan suck in?

The ‘cover’ (as I’m calling it) does nothing. But plenty of air coming in. Maybe it sucks it through the top where I can’t see it????

It’s your recirc door.

If you set the car to fresh air, it opens.

You may have it set to close at traffic lights or when idling, it will close. Drive off, it opens back to fresh air.

Here’s what is behind it in more detail than you might be wondering.

On the left is the rectangle shaped inlet for cabin air. Essentially the hole you are enquiring about.

With the recirc door open.

On the left is that part of the HVAC. Missing is the fan motor.

Same bit from the angle you would see if looking from an invisible engine bay.

Same angle view as if the firewall was invisible.

Thx Fu, little worried… set to fresh air and it’s not retracting (up and over I guess). Does that fitting in my pic look ok to you? I reckon it looks a bit off centre?

This is its position now - open position- it don’t look open… I almost don’t wanna ask what retracts it back.

There’s an actuator that operates it.
However if it has a particular setting, you might have it set to open, but it won’t open until you are moving. You may not know it’s set like that.
