You say it's been in a smash. How bad was it? What has been replaced when it was repaired?

From memory the VS bearings were made in Italy and were top quality, I'd guess genuine Holden VT ones would also be made in Europe and have it stamped on them.

I'd try CBC they should be able to get you a decent hub/bearing at a reasonable price. Machter seem to make a few different car parts none of which are considered quality unfortunately, even though sellers on eBay claim the parts are of high standard....:confused::confused:

Stop buying **** wheel bearings.

I'd use genuine second hand before aftermarket crap. Bearings are one thing you should always go genuine for.

Just as a guide as I don't know if you have ABS or not. I looked at Machter bearings and for $50 and a five year warranty no wonder they look attractive.... Genuine are nearly 4x that and rightly so. CBC's were around $120-$130 trade price for a decent bearing. Everything I have bought from CBC's over the years has lasted well. I'm sure you get the picture, you're going to pay a premium to get a decent product, compared to some of the garbage parts out there.

A lot of stuff comes from China these days including a lot of industrial gear, most of it isn't to bad but the first order of business is to replace the chinese bearings and fit something decent to ensure it lasts.....

so Machter are chinese knockoffs??

Could a front end smash be the problem too? Even with a wheel alignment?

Definately not a wheel alignment problem....If it has been in an accident it is a possibility the stub axle is bent, causing a constant wheel bearing failure. Even if it hasn't been in an accident and the front left has been constantly been hit against the gutter, this can cause the stub axle to bend.

I would suggest, getting the front left wheel up in the air and spin the wheel...Check the wheel is running true ie, not wobbling side to side up and down...this will help diagnoise if you have a bent stub axle.
