Michelin tyres could not gaurantee their tyres would be safe on a banked curcuit at 300kph so all michelin shod cars pulled out .

In one of the last turns in the track, the force on the left rear tyre at the high speed was hugh. Michelin actually brought the wrong set of tyres to the race. The reason for that was that they did not count on the resurfaced track (which was done earlier in the year) would be so rough. The grip of the tyres they brought were no problem but it was the particullar strength of the sidewalls. F1 rules state that you are only allowed to bring 2 different types to a track. Even though they knew about the problem early, they would be breaking the rules by having more tyres sent over.

After a couple of blow outs and one serious crash in practise and qualifing, Michelin issued a statment to say there tyres were unsafe and recommended that the cars not race. As safety was of primary concern all but the Bridgestone teams pulled out, as much as they would have liked to race.

There was discussion into putting in a chicanne in to slow the speeds at the danger end but that would of needed another set of practise for all cars to get used to the difference - another safety point. It was also not fair to do this as it would disadvantage the Bridgestone teams that had adheared to the rules the whole time and done their practises accordingly.

Bit of a balls-up alltogether.

Screw the Bridgestone teams (read Ferrari). Minardi and Jordan were prepared to allow the change in the track - Ferrari were not because they want to be in the FIA's good books. The Michellin teams apparently offered to run either like this or with safer tyres specially flown in and in doing so not score any points so as at least there would be a race. Ferrari said no to this as well as the FIA and so for the sake of scoring a few political points they both ****ed up any chance of F1 having any credibility in North America. I could go on for ages about all this political crap that's going on this year of which this is a part of, but who needs the headache. Although I suggest anyone who is seriously interested in where this sport is headed might want to watch Neil Crompton on RPM this Sunday arvo - no doubt he'll put it in laymans terms that everyone can understand. :ranting:

Haha, it's still a gold medal :p.

I'm not sure what's wrong with the Ferrari's this year, in a few races now Schuey has had massive pace during the middle stint.
Last week in Canada, Barrichello came from 20th to finish 3rd. Yes there was a bit of bradbury action going on but he still would have gained a good 13 positions if there weren't any big name retirements.
I don't like all these new rules, 1 tyre for the whole race, 1 engine a weekend, less downforce... They're killing the sport with all these regulations.
