Okay I have a bit of a problem, I just got back to my girlfriends house and locked my car but the key snapped off in the door lock (drivers side), to make things worse i deadlocked it (full turn).

(I was using the key becase the actuator/central locking mechanism isnt working in my drivers door so it wont lock using the button on the key)

:bang:

Question is, what do I do now, sure I need another key but:

1. remove the remainder of the key out of the door lock.

2. I dont have a spare key.

3. Its now Sunday (who works sundays that could help me) and im ~ 100k's from home.

4. Its parked in a dark alley way in south perth.

(I will also post this under the VR-VS forum. Sorry about the double post)

Hmmmm are you with the RACV (Victoria) (.... whatever they're called in WA)??

As for being parked in a dark alley... hmmm... Dunno... too far to be pushed/towed onto a street?

I dunno

Tough luck mate, hope all works out well

Well seeing as you have no spare key... you cant drive it anywhere! call a lock smith... youll need 1. get into the car, 2. Replace locks etc. etc... start by ringin RACV or RACW or whatever it is... unles oyu can geta key cutter to make a new key from your snapped old one... maybe...

youll need a new BCM as well.... there linked ot the keys

OK, there are likely to be locksmiths who can help you out with all of your problems, there should be a couple of 24 hour locksmiths around. It depends how far the key is in, but you could try maybe using a magnet or fishing hook to get the broken part of the key out. Good luck

How the hell the key snapped off?? Usually they are pretty strong.

Use a magnet to get it out.

Would have to be pretty bloody strong magnet. You can unlock the door still by putting what is left of your key into the lock and turning it. Then you will have to take the door trim off and push the key out from the inside. If you can't get at the back off the lock you will have to pop it out. This happened to a Nissan I had and I never took the broken bit out of the door, I just had half a key on my keyring and used the spare to start it.

You can get a new key cut and just put it into the old key head. No need for a BCM, if you have to get a complete key, a Holden dealer can program it to the car but you have to get it to one first.

Thanks for your replies, I think the first thing i'll do is try to get the other part out of the lock. Then if all else fails I'll call the RAC.

Is it possible to cut a key from both parts of the snapped one though?
