My 2016 Redline will be turning 3 years old early next year and Holden contacted me regarding extending the factory warranty (unfortunately I bought my car not long before the 5 year warranty was offered). I wanted to get people's thoughts and opinions on whether it would be a good idea to buy the extended warranty. Pricing information from the Holden website is below. Based on the distance I travel I am considering the time only 36 month option. Thanks for any input.

Recommended Retail Price
Time only - 12mths /100,000kms from $895*
Time only - 24mths /100,000kms from $1,175*
Time only - 36mths /100,000kms from $1,365*
Time and distance - 12mths /150,000kms from $1,075*
Time and distance - 24mths /175,000kms from $1,345*
Time and distance - 36mths /175,000kms from $1,785*

I'm not sure why a "time only" warranty would have a km limit.

I wud suggest readng the whole of the warranty document to establish what it benefits it provides over and above your rights under the Austraian Consumer Law.

Wow way cheaper than what the southgate holden offered me. Mine was almost $2500 for 3 year/175k km but was not offered anything else.

Good point. This was something I thought about as well. Say the engine blows up after 4 years of ownership, a reasonable person would expect that the engine of their car last longer than that period of time and therefore should be protected by Australian Consumer Law. My only cause for concern is a friend who owns a Hyundai had their engine kick the bucket shortly outside the 5 year warranty and Hyundai will not cover it. It is not unreasonable to expect that your car should last longer than that.

You might want to refer them to Holden's recommended retail pricing (it is on the website). Unless they are offering an external warranty (and not the Holden factory warranty)?

They should have pursued their consumer rights.

.... took the extra 3years/up to 175000km Holden warranty
last year on the HSV as the original was finishing (after 3 years)
$1800 from memory

worth it? yes, in my opinion when earlier this year
the radiator split... got towed into my local dealer
flashed the warranty docs and it got fixed at no cost to me
but I did have to sign the 'claim' when the car was picked up
... which interestingly showed the value of the repair.
$900 I did not have to fork out :)

In July 2017 I was quoted from Holden:

· $1765 additional 24 months

· $2060 additional 36 months

That was for time only i.e 100,000km / 24 months or 36 months

All depends on what it covers etc. Is it an extension of new car warranty? Or one of those dealer based ones where it lists certain parts that are covered and pays up to a certain amount per claim? Some of those are BS and cover stuff all and limit you to 2 claims. They are designed to keep you getting your car serviced with them.

Just saw that it's an extension of new car warranty. It's basically a $455 / year mechanical insurance policy for the car. Only you can determine if it's worth it really.
