Have half you ########s bagging the Mazda ever been in one? They are a great little car and **** all over the commodore finish and quality wise. Maybe if Holden didn't make such a **** small car they would still be on top. So sick of the narrow minded commodore freaks that think owning a different brand car is 'un Australian'.

Would definitely go for a Mazda 3. A few mates have had/have them, and they do get along alright with a few mods. For what i use a car for, just driving, they woul be ideal.
A lot of people are downgrading these days due to petrol, rego etc, so why not.
Also them MP5's get a long pretty damn nicely too

^^^^ who gives a ####ing rats arse about the specs???? Are you after the record for irrelevant posts in a single thread or what?

Reaper
I was thinking the same thing Reap. Reading through and seeing post after post of irrelevent spec's being posted. Most people who go to buy a new car and choose a Mazda3 over a Commodore arent going to give two shits that the VE has Forged Powdered Metal Con-rods...as a matter of fact, i dont even care that they do.

Specs dont show build quality, Ride or anything like that. So you cant base a judgement on that...

well the 3.8 1990 vn is pulling 9.3 litres per 100km, mostly city kms , when it gets on the open road sits on around 7 litres per 100 km at 110km/hr. not bad for a greenfoam tune considering the race cam and the 1300 rpm idle

Holden has got nothing on Mazda for built quality, fit and finish or ergonomics. And have a look at how well they hold their resale value. A 2006 Mazda 3 is still going for $20k+ in car yards. How much is a VZ Executive?

Just the facts.

Hmmm and you are assuming the Mazda engine doesnt have any of that?
You havent mentioned fuel consumption.. or ANY other facts about the Holden apart from engine specs.

If you are trying to prove the Holden has more power, you win. The Mazda is surprisingly heavy at 1400kg too. Either of my Kias would eat it :)

If being the faster car makes the Holden the more superior car, then it is. Of course, thats not how you measure car quality... is it? I'b be looking at more details than which one goes faster..

I beg to differ on the items of quality, fit, finish and ergonomics but they are all largely subjective measures. Resale is a very different issue and the first 4 measures are only a minor consideration when compared to the demographic of sales. Mazda 3's are generally bought by the drivers themselves who tend to hold onto their cars for longer periods where the Commodore is generally bought by fleets/companies which turn their cars over ever 1 - 3 years thus the early life supply of used cars is way higher for the Commodore. Not to mention that back in the VZ's day they were outsold the 3 by a ton. Mind you - if you are paying $20k for a 6 - 7 yo Mazda 3, you are being severely fleeced. A brand new Mazda 3 can be had for $21.5 K 2011 Mazda Run Out Special Offers: Mazda 3. Or are we being a bit generous with our facts here
