dunno about me but i wouldn't do this mod the way you guys have, imagine in summer, the heat from the road or tarmac would be just as hot if not hotter then the engine bay heat, that heat straight up that pipe into ya engine....

It's best around the headlight area and top of the radiator.

The OTR would be hotter, the radiator would be already hot from the engine, ontop of the extra heat from the road/air.

Unfortunately in summer you can't really escape it. Hot air rises, so while the tarmac may be hot, the top of the engine bay would be equally hot.

When the car is moving, where the pipe is located doesn't matter, as long as it isn't drawing in trapped heat from the engine bay. In summer it won't make a massive difference on those 40 degree days, but in winter/spring/autumn when you're looking at 25-30 degrees or less it'll make a massive difference.

Alot of you are braver than me, actually cutting into anything other than the easily replaceable airbox.

Mine's installed, just gotta repaint the piping as I scratched it heavily when pushing it through the hole in the airbox.

Noticed a massive difference in throttle response.

Is anyone actually blocking off the original intake?

I heatshrinked the opening going into the airbox.

It sorta defeats the purpose of having a CAI if you're still drawing in the hot air from the original intake. Sure your air will be a little bit cooler, but not by much.

does any1 know how these compare to tha 1s ya buy in shops?
If you make all the seals air tight I don't see how this intake could be any less effective than aftermarket type S CAI's
