You think $400 is high, i got quoted $800 from MIDAS, so i though i midas well not worry about it..But now i'm gonna call around, because if people are getting it done for around $300, then that;s not so bad

Just did the passenger side for the first time and did it in an hour and a half with the help from the thread.

Thought it was pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the info.

Just started to do the mounts on a VR today
Up on ramps
Jack under the engine to lift it
Every bolt on the LHS must have been done up with a rattle gun
Everything was in the way to try and get a spanner or socket on
Got the LHS new mount on this arvo and packed up as it was Beer time
Finish off tomorrow
Mounts $40 each from repco

I'm re posting my way from another thread. Hope it helps.

There is a much easier way to do this!
Do not remove the ac comp or steering pump.

Get a 15mm ring spanner.
Cut it down to 8cm long.
Weld a socket onto it with the square in line with the spanner.
I have included photos of the tool.

This will fit easily onto the inner nuts.
Use a breaker bar on the tool you have made.

Use a 15mm deep socket for the nuts facing down.
Use a 15mm ring spanner for the wheel side nuts.

This will get you around all the problems of the ac comp etc.
Nothing has to be pulled off the engine.
Other than the air intake as can be seen in the video.

Undo all nuts, jack from the sump
Watch nothing catches as you jack the engine.

Replace and fasten

2 to 3 hours

The tool is nothing new. I copied it from a Cessna cylinder head spanner.

Reviving an old thread. I need new mounts but was thinking of just getting the mech to do the left one. Is it worth me doing the right one myself or will I still have to crane the engine and unbolt the left side anyway? If the latter I might as well get the mech to do both.

You will need to lift the engine. I put the car up on jack stands and then jack up the engine with the the jack under the sump with a block of wood.

I'm gonna copy this into the stickied engine mount thread :)

Basically then, both need to be done at the same time or the time saving is pretty much nil?? I will get quote on labour and decide what to do from there I think. I have pit so assume this will make it a tad easier??

If doing a VR jack it up somewhere other than the sump, maybe the join between the trans and rear of motor... the bloody sump may leak due to the gasket being compressed...mine has ever since I did mine, still have to get under there to see if I can nip the sucker up...
