I'm on the fence for buying a 04 barina wagon with 278 k's, it's reasonably cheap but is the k's too high?

You need to check the service books that came with that car.
If it’s all filled out regularly on times using correct fluids, that’s a good start.
If not, up to you to take the punt.
Service books are VERY important and it’s always very strange the way many go missing.

How cheap are we talking and do you have a link to the advertisement?

As @gossie said, if it has a well documented service history, that's a good start...

Also, is it a VYII or a VZ?

Neither...It's a Barina.....

To reply to the OP....Not too many Barinas getting round, which rings alarm bells for me....Reason being, if there aren't many around, generally points to some problem with them

Those old rebadged Opels were unreliable when they were new and only got worse with age.

I've had both a Vectra and a Combo (The van version of a Barina) in past lives........both absolutely terrible.

They had a lot of problems with rust and also terrible electrical systems that rarely worked.

Dare I suggest a well looked after YARIS?
Daughter is on her fourth and ZERO problems with any of them.
All she spends is fuel, registration and they are economical she says, and proper service twice a year.
And her books on the current one are up to date of course.

His profile says Berlina but he says Barina... If it's a Berlina, maybe though if it's a Barina, run the other way...

I think he meant Berlina since his profile says Berlina...
