My car doesn't have service log book, mainly because for the last 6 years I have done all the servicing.

Vt with VU/VZ bits
Ask the bloke where he got his servicing done. Ring that mechanic, supply vin or rego and I am sure they will be willing to help.

I was amazed when I rang subaru to find out whether a timing belt had been changed. They went through everything on the vehicles history that wasn't listed in the log book. More than willing to help and at no cost!

You can also do a VIV / Revs /Whatevever it is in your state check to see if the odomoter is true and accurate. Should also tell you if it has been flooded, stolen, written off etc.

The car im looking at is a vt clubsports II.

Do a VIN check. Make sure it's not just an SS or something with Clubby bits on it.

How many kms does it have on the odo?

I think it's a risky buy. Simply because
youll have no idea what's been done to
the vehicle.
I service mine, but on the inside back
cover of the service book, I record
EVERYTHING I've done, including date and
klms it was done at. Hell, I even write
in those details for new tyres.

The service book is a joke it ain't gonna tell you that it's had the guts flogged out of it and there is no telling if the book is legit or not so don't go relying on it to make ya final decision.

Well the car is pretty far so I am just getting some advice from some hard commodore fans before I waste my time..... Car has 170odd kms on her and Ive checked even with HSV that everything matches, just now actually need to check the engine and VIN itself rather than off the rego sticker.

And with calling previous mechanics, I feel that can't really determine because the mechanic may just be a close friend/regular mechanic for the seller so can't really trust that advice

No service book or anything else is
going to show whether the 'guts has been
flogged out'. Any car can have been
thrashed, personally I'd rather a
service history rather than nothing at
all.
