VY II S Pack A4
Holden have a fix for this. There should be a bit of insulation under the horn pad of the steering wheel. Without it the horn shorts causing it to go off.
I went into holden and was told by the service guy that its a known prob on the vy's.. he said there's a sticker behind the main centre part that gets old and the edges come away and curl up and touch the horn part and make it go pff periodically.. as the sticker has metal properties.. eg when i got my new steering wheel on i saw the sticker and it was curled up on the ends!.. had a gold metal finish on the back of it too.. Havent had any probs anymore so horn relay is back in!.. new leather steering wheel and matching 6 speed shifter and stitched handbrake all in :D

I'm originally from Melbourne, though have been at the Gold Coast for the last 2 months, and my girlfriend has been driving my VY Exec which had this problem with the horn going off. I've been reading this site for a while and when my girl told me about what happened I guessed it was the same problem as you have described. My girl went into Holden and told them about what we thought it was and when she went to pick up the car, it was exactly that. Apparently the heat caused the sticker to peel back. Thanks guys.

just want to say i had a 2004 VY2 SS 6speed with 80000k's which i had to get rid of for the following reasons,:-when raining or being washed water would leak into the drivers footwell and through the top of the door, holden couldn't rectify this problem even after several attempts, had a loud grinding noise coming from the gearbox while in neutral(was told it was normal!).In the space of 9 months the car went to the holden dealer 6times.this car was never flogged.now own a 2003 VY2 SS Auto which so far runs like a dream.

Geez, sounds like you may have got a bit of a dud there, but congrats on sticking with the VY SS. After an experience like yours, many people would have bought a Ford or something else! :bang:

Thumping Transmission

I have a problem with my VY Acclaim. The transmission thumps from 1st to 2nd and sometimes just sticks in 2nd. Other times the engine runs rough as guts. It is intermittent but on going. I have been trying to get it fixed for 3 months and nobody can track down the cause. I am convinced it is an electronic and not a mechanical problem with the transmission or engine itself. Does this sound like the problem you have been experienced? Did you get yours fixed? What was the cause? Who fixed it?

Regards John

John, I had exactly the same problem, with the trans, I took it in for a service and it came back fine although they said they couldn't replicate the problem.

This was going back to November when it was last serviced and it's now starting to happen again every so often. It's taken a while to come back though this time round. I am thinking it's something to do with the adaptive shift as from my understanding is they reset the computer after every service.

I am inclined to take it to an auto trans place as they seem to have no idea at all.

What I don't understand is I write things out in paragraph form as to how and when ie hot, cold, certain rpm, gear selection, people in the car etc and they still manage to come back and say nope we can't replicate the problem, like hell you can't :bang:

Jump in the car and I'll show you but none have taken me up on that offer yet.

My is more obvious. I have been to a transmission specialist, an injection specialist and my local mechanic who is a bit of a guru. I have error codes from readout Error 105" sensor sticking I think. The sensor has been replaced. loose or "crossed" wires insulated etc. I drive it out of the workshop and it starts again. It has played up while in dock. Things are tinkered with and it works OK for 10 minutes, a day a week, then it is off in looney land again.

It is making me physically ill.

My vy II s is two years old this month, it has 95,000kms on the clock, this morning it come up with ABS Fault warning, has anyone experienced the same, id say it'd be a warrenty issue but ive only got 5,000kms til that runs out.. i havent had any other problems except for the gf burning the clutch...

Not commodore related but exactly the same problem, my mini cooper s done the same and it had the dealer's mechanics scratching. It was actually the state manager that said he'd seen it before and it was a loose battery terminal that had caused a power spike to the ABS computer. Removed the terminal to reset, refitted and all good.

wheel alignment wont fix this problem. the s/wheels centralisation is out. get that fixed

A wheel alignment will fix this if done correctly - The technician should centre the steering wheel first then use a bracket to lock it in that position. Both tie rods are then re-adjusted to align both wheels, with the steering wheel in the correct position.

If the technician has not straightened the wheel first, he hasn't done the job correctly.
