Holden have a fix for this. There should be a bit of insulation under the horn pad of the steering wheel. Without it the horn shorts causing it to go off.
I went into holden and was told by the service guy that its a known prob on the vy's.. he said there's a sticker behind the main centre part that gets old and the edges come away and curl up and touch the horn part and make it go pff periodically.. as the sticker has metal properties.. eg when i got my new steering wheel on i saw the sticker and it was curled up on the ends!.. had a gold metal finish on the back of it too.. Havent had any probs anymore so horn relay is back in!.. new leather steering wheel and matching 6 speed shifter and stitched handbrake all in
I'm originally from Melbourne, though have been at the Gold Coast for the last 2 months, and my girlfriend has been driving my VY Exec which had this problem with the horn going off. I've been reading this site for a while and when my girl told me about what happened I guessed it was the same problem as you have described. My girl went into Holden and told them about what we thought it was and when she went to pick up the car, it was exactly that. Apparently the heat caused the sticker to peel back. Thanks guys.
