Hi,
Please give me your opinions re is there much difference in power, idle, fuel economy & driveability between the following 2 cams that I am considering:
224/228 114 lsa .Lift .585 /591

224/232 114 lsa, Lift .580/.590

I want to improve the acceleration of my VF SSV Series 2 MANUAL which already has a vcm cai & ramjet headers merged into standard bi modal exhaust .

I want to retain a fairly smooth idle, good driveability but also attain a more sporty coming on the cam stronger mid range & top end but not lose much bottom end.
Thank you for your much appreciated advice. If you think a different cam would be better please tell me.
I am keen to improve my knowledge before I spend quite a few hard earned dollars.

Can’t go wrong with either, both will have good driveability.

I’ve got 224 230 114 in my LS2 auto, almost factory manners still, standard stall. Nice power gain, power comes in from about 2500rpm and sounds great. Uses a bit more fuel around town but good on the highway.

Most of what you speak about will come down to the tuning, if you explain your requirements to your installer tuner they will know what to do. I like the second one 224/232 114 lsa, Lift .580/.590 myself.

Can't go wrong with the second cam you mentioned. Looks to be tried and proven as a good all-round cam by alot of guys. Similar spec to the vcm5sc.

why not change your standard catback for some more hp, might be a bit of a restriction for the top end when you cam it?

I've asked VCM what the extra 4 degress of exhaust would do for their 685 over the older 15 in na form (216/228 vs 216/224 both 115lsa). Their response was the bigger split would make the power come on slightly later and ultimately recommended the 15 to me for my needs.

Get something in the 230's or 240's. Go hard or go home with the 6.2L imo.

The second one sounds very similar in spec to the VCM 5sc. The idle is definitely lumpier, and driveablity is also affected a bit. It may not be as noticeable in a manual though. In an auto it's probably on the threshold of needing a stall converter.

The guys who put my charger in put a 224/230 114lsa , and it is a bit surgy sometimes when pulling up , mines an auto so much more could be a bit uncomfortable .
EDIT: I had a new tune , no surge at all and drives well

This is what Walkinshaw use in their W557 222/228 LSA116. Lift .585/.591. Minute surge in the auto, hardly notice after warm up. Nice chop and shake at idle but the tuner can adjust that side of it.
