Fencing and an arrow shaped bull bar. Skippy would become sashimi in 0.05 seconds with minimal disturbance to the train.
That would be almost 2000km of fence to maintain. (A fence up each side) Not cheap.

Wire and a few poles? What has this world come to if we can't even build a fence. Let's go back to horse and carriage. All this high tech modern stuff like fencing is just too hard.

Fast rail (MLB-SYD-BNE) would be nice - yes, but very, very expensive. The problem isn't necessarily with the Feds in Canberra. It's also about the politics/relationships/funding models between states too. Oh, and landowners, and ... (add your own). If it ever happens it's likely to be a PPP - and then the cost is going to hit people for the next 50 years. When I pay $20 to travel to/from the airport in Melb (thats JUST to use the road) you can see how it becomes a 'careful what you wish for'.

Three million passengers flew Sydney to Melbourne in 2017. If each passenger only paid $100 (and they don’t) thats 300 million dollars in income per year from the route. It also reduces our reliance on imported jet fuel to make domestic trips.

The big problem is that we don’t have governments of either stripe that are willing to look past the next election cycle. High speed rail is a nation building project and our governments aren’t ever into nation building.

They can’t even run the place competently enough to make sure everyone has a roof over their heads FFS!

In 2005 l knew this guy that was travelling from Melb. to Brisbane l think.
He was going by train.
Only going for 2 weeks.
When he got back said it was fairly quick trip from the NSW border to Brisbane. High speed train (not sure, but l think the speed was about 180 - 200 kph.

The tracks had been specially fixed down with the correct stuff. Can't remember the correct name. But it allowed the train to safely speed along the track.
When arriving at Vic. border, coming from the north the train would slow to 80 - 100 kph. Some places even slower.
I asked him how come the slow down? He said the Vic. government got ripped by the contractors, the contractors didn't do the job correctly (laying the track). So, trains travelling in Victoria had to go slow. But once in NSW Qld. the trains could speed up to 180 - 200 kph.

Seems to me the Vic. goverments seem to f#ck right left & centre.

Nation building? naa. Just lining their pockets?

Have no idea about the story of the tracks is true or not.
But somebody may know?
