MASSIVE UPDATE!!!

I got my hands on a VE Commodore clockspring this evening. Unfortunately, I had to destroy the clockspring part to get the steering angle sensor out of it, but I got it out undamaged.

Here is the VE Commodore Steering Angle Sensor. It's a Bosch part number 0 265 005 505. Apparently, it's also Holden Part Number 92184056.

Here is a bog standard VZ Clock Spring.

3 T15 Torx screws hold the actual clock spring to the base. Remove it to reveal the space for a steering sensor in the base.

The VE Steering Angle Sensor fits perfectly!!!
Steering Sensor Screwed Down.jpg

This has to be the steering angle sensor Holden used in the AWD Adventras with Electronic Stability Program. I also believe they used it in 2006 VZ HSVs with ESP. So it fits, but is there a mechanism in the VZ clock spring to turn the Steering Angle Sensor?

After messing with it for 20 minutes, there is! There is a single tang next to a tab that slots into a white collar in the base. Orient the Steering Angle Sensor to engage this tang.

And voila! A VZ clockspring with a Steering Angle Sensor!

I still need to get the connector from the guy I bought it from, and it will require some wiring to make it work. I have to bring the CAN Network in and out of the sensor and provide some power and ground, but what does this mean?

- It means I will be able to use a VE Commodore OS in my E38 computer, which means running a 6L80E transmission will be no problem!
- It means that in the Crewman, I will be able to use a VE Commodore ABS module
- It means the Crewman will have an Electronic Stability Program, or what we call Stabilitrak
- It means I will have an Engine Oil Temp Sensor readout, a Trans Temp Sensor readout, Displacement on Demand, and Variable Valve Timing

This is a huge win and I am so excited to start getting the Crewman wiring together so I can make all this happen!

Got my hands on a Yaw sensor from a G8. No surprise that there are two studs on the top of the driveshaft tunnel to mount the sensor. My only concern now is if there will be a clearance issue with the center console once it's installed. It will be a while till I find out, but hopefully things keep going in the right direction.

I’m fairly sure that where it’s mounted in my Cross8.
I’ll do a photo dig.

Not great photos because I had a plastic bag over it while shampooing the carpet.

Here. This one is better.
They seem to be about the same height.

It uses these two studs.

The wiring facing in toward the middle. It sits under the window switch and the cup holder.

That makes sense, because then it will clear the storage bin. I will have to make sure my cupholders are on the passenger side of the console and it should clear fine.

Although, the G8 sensor is clearly mounted in schematics the way I have it. I wonder now if that will matter.

Storage bin uses these two to bolt down.
The sensor is mounted below the window switch and cup holder. Should be plenty of clearance. I’ll try remember to check out the clearance at lunchtime.
