lol, i need a breaker bar to turn fluffy :p starter works fine tho (when it engages)

Yeh, well you have to lean on it a bit, it's not just a turn the ratchet with 1 finger kind of deal. But a breaker bar with a pipe on it? That's too tight, especially for what is probably a tired, half worn out 253.

She's a pretty tight motor, when I bought it 2 years ago it looked like it hadn't long been rebuilt, still had hone marks in the bores.
But starting tomorrow, it's coming back out, and checking bearing caps.

Worst part is, that pisses me off the most, is that it may not even had to have been done, cos I'm not sure if it was just sump that was leaking or sump and mains,

VX SS (Original owner).
Not a Commodore motor, but a friend had a motor that would not turn over after being rebuilt, when we stripped it down it was a bit of crud, I can't remember if it was metal or a bit of dirt, that had stuck to one of the thrust washers on the main bearings, which control the end float of the crankshaft and it had locked the motor up, no real damage but the motor would not turn over.

Yup, my suspicions were right, it's the seal, so a new one on order,
The only thing I done different this time is soak the rope

I soaked it this time, swelled up nicely.
Last time I didn't and it was fine.
