Yes it is. The 5 speed auto is expensive to repair or replace but in my experience seems to have a long service life if they haven’t been flogged constantly. I’ve gotten over 330,000kms from mine so far. It did start misbehaving at about 280,000kms but I changed the shift solenoids out and the fluid twice and it came good.Ah thats great. Worked on ecotecs my whole life. 3.6 is new to me and already sounds like a downgrade when it comes to reliability and repairability.
I‘ve read somewhere on the inter webs that the design life for the 5L40E is about 250,000kms so if that’s true I‘ve had a fairly good run out of mine. When it finally craps itself I’ll be converting it to a manual as it’s far cheaper than getting a replacement auto transmission.
