hi mate

i have a problem, i was driving my VL around and i seen white smoke come from underneath the bonnet so i pulled over and popped the bonnet and there was a cloud of smoke on the left side of the engine around the extractors and rocket cover areas, i had a look around and notice oil on the extractors and wheel guard so i looked abit more but couldnt see anything. is it a gasket or leak? please help asap as this it my daily driver and how much to fix, please help, thanks :)

no doubt it is a rocker cover leak, you can try and tighten the rocker cover but the gasket is probably stuffed and needs replacing and it is an easy job no special tools or mechanical knowledge needed.

i tightened the rocket cover but now it wont start and the brake light comes on and wont turn over. what should i do to fix this?

Sounds like it needs a rocket.

Firstly it's "Rocker" cover.
This would have nothing to do with not starting issue. Give us more info to help.
Is it cranking?
R u getting spark ?
R u getting Fuel?
There is so much info on these forums expecially on the vl. Quite an easy motor to work on

Brake lights could be your brake pedal switch

there is nothing wrong with rocket cover, i checked that and it all good. when i go to turn the car over the fuel pump starts but the brake light comes up and the oil pressure sits on 5 but doesnt turn over or crank

Rocker cover...seriously.


Also, how did you check it? Did you pull it off and replace the gasket? Is the car out of gear?

i unbolted the cover and pulled it off but the gasket was fine and the car was in nuetral

How's the battery? Got enough charge to crank it?
Neutral start switch might be failing. Turn key and hold it and shift the shifter to park or neutral. See if it kicks. Have had this before
