Its probably used for escorting people like the PM and overseas dignitarys.. Kinda makes sense...

The aim of the 'Typhoons, Monaros, HIghway Patrol vehicles' is to increase public awareness.. It proves it works because everyone of you are talking about them!!

I imagine the police wouldn't have to pay full price for these vehicles either, which means they aren't soending as much of the tax payers dollars as you think.

I'm not sure about this, but maybe ford approached them saying they'll sell them the typhoons for significantly less than what an average joe would have to pay from a dealer. It makes sense doesn't it?

My dad works with country energy and at one point they had this deal with Ford, where they'd pay a very low price for the cars, and then when they got 80,000k's on them, they'd give them back to whoever they bought them from for a new one, and because they were sold for very cheap, they could be sold used for very cheap but still very new cars. Mind you, those cars were terrible and had tonnes of problems with them. ;)

I don't really mind the fact that tax payer dollars are going into expensive police cars. A lot of people look at the police as the enemy or people out to get you. But what if they need these cars to stop a pursuit as quick as possible?... a pursuit that could well have put you in danger on the highway? Wouldn't you want them to catch the person driving dangerously as quick as possible?

It is often cheaper to have the more expensive car because they have a better resale value than your standard exec making the difference in purchase and sale price less.. but this only works for cars which are sought after.
