I have just got a VZ auto gearbox installed into my VX wagon. It is still with the mechanic who installed it but it has a problem. He is getting codes from the gearbox coming up and he says it doesn't appear to be shifting at the right times.

Anyone got any info, we have tried called the place I got the gearbox from but all we get is the answering machine.

They don't use the same control module so this may be your problem. I remember reading that the gearbox in the VZ was much improved and had about 5x as many shift points programmed into it's control module. You may need to change the control module as well and/or speak to an auto trans specialist.

Cheers, that helps a bit. Is the control module in the powertrain module?

And if I just get the computer tuned would that fix the shifting problem?

i know few joints can we map the the shifts points that may think it so you may need that done so it will shift at the right for your car, as the vz was more fo a higher reving motor and the gearbox on them is alot more advanced than the vt-vy.

So it can be remapped? As I am planning a few mods, (full exhaust, OTR, and maffless tune to start) would it be ok to wait until I get the maffless tune done and get them to remap the shift points at the same time?

Just to let people know the outcome. I have picked up the car, it flares between gears when on medium to full throttle, light throttle is fine. After talking about it to them mechanic he called a few tuners he knows who say that all it needs is a new tune in it to suit the gearbox.

So I have a few names and numbers. With prices of around $600 for a gearbox tune and $1200 for a full tune ( gearbox, maffless, etc) at one place, and $200 to $300 at another place without a dyno for the gearbox tune.

Not sure about it yet, so can anyone recommend any tuners in victoria or melbourne that are decent and at a good price

BTW, The only code for the gearbox is P0705, which is the Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction, Basically N and P don't show up.
