I ended up going a full system from manta, with 4-1 headers and 100cpi cats.

Nothing beats a full proper system!
Vs branded off the shelf, something custom designed for your engine and driving is always going to be more satisfying.
Replacing mid muffler with x-pipe in the correct location is one of the best value mods you can do for this car.

Well positioned x pipe and getting the stock mufflers off.
Those things are incredibly sound deadening to make up for horrendous drone that the poorly considered dual outlet stock exhaust system emits.
The single outlet LS1 based stock exhaust never had the drone problems to the same extent.
I guess looking cool won out over good design for the VE-VF V8's.

When i had the marriage savers on my VF1 they sounded quite good, and pretty loud. The rest of the exhaust was standard , though the car did have an OTR and tune. Once the tuner shut off the AFM, there was no drone either

My xpipe and marriage savers are a great combo that I'm happy with. No drone and great beat/note when floored and when starting, plus pops and crackles on deceleration.

I have a HSV system fitted to my VFII, HSV headers, cats and centre section. I have the marriage savers fitted at the rear. I am now going to investiagte whether its worth putting an x pipe on.

Photo showing my HSV centre section, I have been advised that the x-pipe should go where the two small hot dogs are and not at the front?

If I'm not mistaken, you already have a X section just further up from the hotdogs.. so you'd want to have two X sections?

well I dont know if that is a real x-pipe or not. I was thinking not, as the sound is not very deep and there seems to be a weld join between the two pipes to make it look like an x. Can anyone confirm?.
