Hi i have scoured the internet for the rarest Holdens, whether that be special editions etc and I am having a hard time finding them, except for HSVs. Would be interesting to see which variants, special editions and drivetrain combinations were the rarest, is there a way to get hold of this information? Not talking about prototypes or aftermarket. Cheers.

.. in answer no

no-one that I am aware of at GMH/Holden has kept this sorta stuff
(except for HSV)

For starters, with over a million possible build variations on HQ-HZ series , lots of rare ones
out there (if they have not rusted away or been written off)

I had a 5litre M21 4 speed L wagon built for me during VC production while I worked there
.. rare? as hens teeth but who apart from me, who knows that?

I also had a 5 litre M21 4 speed manual VK Berlina 234 pack with V5H engine pack built for me as a company car (which I ended up buying).. It had everything .. including a factory sunroof. Probably the one VK Berlina built with the SS/Police engine and sunroof

Again... apart from me, who knows?

even modern stuff
when was the last time anyone saw one of these?
Yes, sticker pack on a SS wagon Holden called the Sandman
rare..? most likely

Aside from the 1 off builds from the RPO's that Smitty mentioned, I suggest the VN SS Group A would have to go close as a distinct model in it's own right - 302 produced. A9X hatch beats the VN with 100 (?) produced. Something a tad more obscure would be the S4 EH with 126 built.

.. don't forget 150 'Bathurst' LJ Torries
or
the approx 50 VB SL/E 8VX69 '308' pack sedans
with 5 litre manuals trans and the 2.6 rear axle

or the VC SL/E wagon (which was never approved for production)
some say 25, some say 50 ( my recollection is 26) or the equivalent
VL Calais wagon (remember thse are actually tarted up Berlina wagons)

or VD Commodores... coz some wags at Pagewood changed the die block
on the body plate stamper ;)

Loool - memories there. A mate had one back quite a while ago. He overtook me backwards in a paddock next to the road on the way home from xmas break up from work after mis calculating an overtaking maneuver. Yet another one of those cars we should never have sold :/

We never knew how rare they were back then - A VB was disposable like the LH/X toranas, H series and pretty much everything else from early 80's and older.
