Regardless, so your saying you would just reuse a seal that has 150k plus on it, rather than spend a few extra bucks and fit a new one?

Yea, unless the customer wants to pay extra.
Not many do though.

Suppose you wouldn't replace the seal plate either?
Not if it's not leaking

The thing is losh I could find 100 things that should be replaced, but selling a job with everything done for preventative maintenance is near on impossible.
Yea you're correct but Joe blow public doesn't think like you.
They just want X fixed 90% of the time.

Perhaps the OP could be so kind to give us the breakdown of the quote?

I regularly deal with people who have quotes from garages, and pretty much every quote I have seen has a breakdown on the parts they will fit and the hours they predict the job will take.

It would also be good to have a breakdown of the invoice for the brakes.

I will also add, when I change a seal I'll use 320 grit scotchbright to re-hone the surfaces which takes 10 minutes or so.
Then if you change a plate over, for the engine rear main it's a **** ton of cleaning.

The biggest part of engine work is prep.

how can you guarantee a job when you are not replacing seals that would be disturbed on removal and refit

You never touch and seal.
You undo the three torque converter bolts, you lower the trans on the tranny jack,
The torque converter stays in the tranny so you don't disturb that seal.
Then you don't unbolt the flex plate so that seal never gets touched.
If they're leaking then yea call the customer and ask if they want to spend extra money to get the seals done.

This is one big issue when customers get multiple quotes, they might question why X quote is higher but never study the quote to see extra work is being performed.

Then you get the customers that say, why are you going to change that seal? But it's not leaking, so why would you change it.

It's just easier to do the job, inspect and find a reason to tell the customer "hey you need a seal"

You guys have to remember that 99% here are mechanically inclined people on this site, when you're dealing with people that don't know a thing about cars it's a whole different story.

Ok, so received the bill today after transfering the $670 into my sons bank account over there.
Happy with the pricing as it was
$6 shims
$111 pad set
$260 rotors
$155 labour
The quote had increased by $140 because of additional $60 GST plus $78 for 2 wiper blades.

Thermo leak, front brakes, suspension rubber next service
Thanks for all the input guys appreciated

Thanks for posting the itemised account. From seeing it, you can see you treated fairly on price.
