Car has 130k and is 8 years old now.

Gearbox is fine but a bit clunky...Holden say don't apparently, some people say do....how long does the at fluid they put in really last...

Or am I better off leaving it while it's working fine?!

More cars than I've got space to park!
I've never understood why they don't want it changed, surely the oil gets contaminated over time?

The way I look at it is, changing the oil can't hurt anything and for fifty-odd bucks worth of oil every few years it's cheap insurance!

But the biggest incentive for me would be getting some early warning of a future problem by checking for metal stuck to the magnetic drain plug, catching that early could mean the difference between a new set of bearings or a whole new transmission assembly when it detonates?

It's not the oil that wears in a gearbox, it doesn't get hot enough to break down. But it suspends all the bits that wear off the moving parts, this is why you should change it.
