Transmission cooler is worth considering

The VE's are supposed to have much better transmission cooling IIRC. But more cooling is always better than less.

@bjf66 have you ever looked at your transmission temps when cruising?

Do VE suffer from milkshakes due to failing coolers? Or are the radiators decent?

Not a major issue like it was on the Fords.

Having fitted twin coolers to the VN and disconnecting the trans cooler lines from radiator im thinking of fitting deep sump and trans coolers to both the VE V6 and VF V8 and be done with it

Although googled my heart out the other day looking for deep sump for 5L40 but couldn’t find one
So that just leaves the trans cooler to deal with

However first wanted to change atf and trans filter

I’ve never looked at the trans temp in either car as they are just daily drivers and Never an issue with either
But doing this filter change has got me thinking

I drove the VE /V6 this morning for test drive and got the trans up to 60 C

My surprise was water temp was 88 c which seemed to me high
Radiator flush, coolant change next week
This car is 2009 and only done 52,000km so it hasn’t seen much road time

Most probably just go for the same Aeroflow af72-4040 trans cooler I used on VN in front of radiator

60° C is fine (140° F).

yes, but it was raining and only 13-14 C in Melb this morning and was driving lightly for 15min
water temp was 88 C which was the scary thing,
have to look at that next week
Not sure the coolant has been changed in 52000Km 15 yrs, although never over heated, although wifey isn't going far
interesting what you learn when you can see the engineering temperature when diriving and flicking through menu

88c is about right, maybe even on the cool side. You start to worry when it's closer to 110deg C.

88°C isn't really hot for coolant. Holden/GM run engines hot to improve emissions and marginal economy increases.
