Sounds like your workshop handled the knocking odditiy in a professional manner.
Using a dashcam sounds like a great idea but if using a mobile to capture the sounds, i'd get a passenger to do it or be careful when you use the phone as it's an excuse the plods won't accept if you are pinged.

I'm happy with how the workshop has looked after the car after the upgrade and wouldn't hesitate in using their services again .thanks all for your responses

Well you should put their name up here for all to see, we are always rabbiting on about bad workshops, now there is a good story you should share the name so other can also use them.
