I’ve heard that all I need to do for this conversion is to change the sump, is this the case or is there more to it?
Welcome to Just Commodores, a site specifically designed for all people who share the same passion as yourself.
Should I take the gearbox out with the engine or just the engine?Yes the sump needs to be changed

Awesome I think you have answered all my questions, thanks so much for the advice.Assuming you are lifting the Engine out !
Word of advice, Leave the Trans in place,
But support the trans with a trolley jack till you have the engine clear,
then hang the trans at the bell housing with some VERY strong wire on both sides, ie: Thick Coat Hanger Wire
Prepare the replacement engine, -
Torque up the Drive Plate Bolts correctly !
Replace ALL the sensors on the replacement motor from you old motor,
and then do the reverse to install the replacement engine, and taking care to line the torque converter up to the drive plate.
And make sure you tension up the torque converter bolts.
And make sure ALL the Heat Shields for the sensors are in place when finished.

Why replace all sensors? Even if they look the same? I’ve had my cam shaft sensors on a table for 3-5 months and are slightly rustic(had to stop for bathroom renovation) how do I fix these or can I use the ones from replacement engine?Assuming you are lifting the Engine out !
