Of course it can be replaced, how else would they reco it?
The problem is that it's a 50/50 chance of getting the shaft to come apart or destroy it in the process, hence why most mechanics won't go near it.
My guess in that video posted earlier had been taken apart previously to the video making it look real easy, the spring clip doesn't appear to be in the groove of the spline.
