I have unfortunately had to work in these situations and had a phone call at 8 oclock at night and told there is no more work for me, completely dishonest but they get away with it. Casual workers are only supposed to be casual for 3 months before becoming full time employees, what a joke. It's just a way to get around paying people properly.

Now, with our digital world, you only get an email if you're lucky or a text, so they don't have to answer any questions or engage.
My offspring work under those conditions.
When they finish uni they are under instructions to get boring but permanent employment.

It is a public holiday in the UK. This year it was celebrated on June 11.

Here in NZ it would be nice if they moved King/Queens birthday till later in the year. Here we have a lot of public holidays at the start of the year but then nothing much towards the end of the year, spacing them out a bit better would be better.

Chaz' birthday is November 14 (same as my dad's) , so it might. Although real dates don't matter anyway it seems..

The article I read said that Saturday is regarded as a work day in the UK. However as it was classified as a holiday it must be paid. There is no such thing as an unpaid holiday, day off yes, holiday no.

That has happened to me as well. The next day I had to go back and pick my tools up so I got up him. He made some lame excuse about not knowing the day before. I told him don't you forget to pay my super, he told me he would and then folded up his company. I got onto the ACC, a year later they told me they had been unable to get my money. The only good thing about it was that I got a Bunnings power pass so I must have got my lost super back.

Yippy, Monday the 26th will be a one off public holiday in NZ, Queen Elizabeth II Memorial day.

Casuals can come in handy sometimes for a business as many businesses have varying workloads necessitating varying the number of employees but I think there are a lot of businesses that abuse the concept of casual employees.

I agree casuals can be good for businesses, with the varying workloads......Even though I didn't mention it specifically, commenting about casual hours varying is a little hint towards the varying workloads businesses have and a way they save money to boot.

And yes, there is the abuse of this out there....I have personally seen it with a previous employer.....When I bought it up, I was given the shut up or leave speach.....I took the leave portion....Not working for an asswipe like that
