Holden specify the 5 speed to be serviced at 150K.
I had my 4 speed done at 100K.
Had a talk to the specialist that serviced my tranny
about extended service intervals.
He claims they should be serviced every 12 months
or 20K. Along with some stories about failures.
But he would say that wouldn't he?
Cheap insurance though for overservicing.

I have heard similar from various shops. Personally, I'm going to start doing mine every 12 months. At most I'd leave it for 24 months, or about 50,000kms. The fluid deteriorates with age, and heat, and there is no way around that really. 150,000? That's just asking for trouble.

My theory is they are "sealed for life", because by the time you change the fluid the tranny is dead :p

Any transmission specialist should be able to change the fluid. It's not rocket science and if you can change your oil you can change your trans fluid, but either way I would get it done before you have some very expensive repairs on your hands.

Thanks guys. Next time I take it to Holden I'll get them to change the fluid. They will do it if I request them to right? My car is still under Warranty.

Well the procedure is in their service manuals, I'm sure they could figure it out, but to be honest I'd take it to a proper mechanic :p

My car is never going near a dealer again. Ever.

Yeah well I might just wait until it runs out of warranty then take it to a transmission specialist. My Holden dealer has actually been quite good with my car servicing so far so I can't really complain. I think I'll still get it serviced there after the warranty runs out.

Well i took my car to Holden and they told me the Gearbox was "faulty" and would cost 6k for a new gearbox. I had the trans-fluid changed at 80k but i think it was too late. I would advise anyone with the 5 speed auto to get it serviced every 40k to be safe.

hmmm very interesting. Im thinking this actually could be the vcm tune causing our problems and not the gearbox as you are having the same problem with a manual gearbox.
