In Vic we have a self service garage that you can rent a hoist and tools so you can work on your car if space doesn't permit at home.

Might be something to check out if it's a thing NZ does too.
I wish we had that in SA.

I'm currently looking for someone that will rent me thier dyno for a few hours, but nobody wants to do that......even though I'm offering more than their hourly rate for a full tune etc.

I have the space, just need to pull my finger out to get hoist happening!

Unfortunately, our ducted aircon died last year (~$20k) and I was smacked with a massive tax bill as I underestimated my business income the previous year. Will be putting solar on this year so I think the hoist will need to wait until next year..........

Have you the required height in the shed for a hoist?

Yes, one of the Bendpak low profile hoists will fit. There is approx 4 m height on the tall side. Leaves me with around 0.5 m clearance on the low side with the VP in a fully raised position. Just over the rear quarter of the slab was done 150 mm slab.

I made my jack trans platform from scrap laying around the shed. Don't know if you're in the same position. For me it was trying to get the platform as low as possible, that way l didn't have raise the rear of the vehicle that high.

I've taken some pics of the platform. Its not over complicated. I can also throw a ratchet strap over the trans. to secure it to the platform.

Good idea.

Just measured up, not going to get the height required. Stands max out at approx 460 mm.

Car was around 400 mm off the ground.

It was sketchy getting the car off, it wanted to move a little, so not keen on adding pavers under the stands.

Will either need to get bigger stands or find a hoist.

I use these and some timber sleepers (thick ones)

With those I was able to pull my 304 + 4l60 out with the engine crane in one piece in about 5 mins with no adjustments needed etc, just slid straight out, and thats a damn long combo with a lot of swing to clear the extension housing on the ground etc.

I've got a set of 4 that are square tube & are pinned like yours. I also have a pr, like yours. I pick up used for $10.00.

Also have a set of 4 of the 1200 kg ones. They only get used on the trailer now.

I have a set like that plus another set with the square tube and threaded top section so there is some adjustment which I need to a non flat driveway to get everything sitting nice and stable.

Plus a set of 4 smaller ones 2ton I think those are.

I might accelerate my hoist purchase plans. Wanted to buy one when shed was built but other things got in the way and it was left behind.

Suppose this is as good as an excuse as any.
