ill get some pics tonight(need to pull my ruined W55 gearbox)

with the viscous hub the rpm is factored with air speed, the faster the air speed the faster the cool down the less engagement or speed the fan will produce, so on the spot revving its ass off will heat the viscous hub up alot making the ports open letting the silicon oil through creating more drag making the fan spin faster, so on the road cruising around the fan pretty much does stuff all till you stop and sit in traffic and the radiator heats up, you can manipulate the amount of drag/spin with thicker hub oil, and RC car hobby shop sells this stuff, I put 10,000cst into the hub on my landcruiser to make the fan engage harder and spin faster for towing(factory silicon oil is 5,000cst)

this is the hub I bought

https://www.onlineautoparts.com.au/...-Engine-1988-1999-incl-Safari-FCF37/ZPN-13093

I had to make a small spigot to centre it to the water pump and i needed some 5/16 unf studs and nuts to bolt it up

also this needs to be redrilled to the right pattern

I already had the plastic fan from a wreck and it bolted to the hub

the amount of air these things move is awesome, kicks ass over a thermo fan by far, even without a shroud it still worked better than the electric fan I had mounted

you can see where I cut the cowl to go under the cold air scoop, being a 4 cylinder cowl it was to high
also I cut heaps off the bottom to make it fit and just riveted a piece of aluminium in its place for fitment, a v8 shroud would fit perfect

Removed the box and engine tonight.. what a nightmare to remove them together.. the back of the box was getting stuck. Anyway to remove the front panel on VB? When putting it back in?

Too many
Its all welded, so no. Id recommend having a helper or two when you re install if you didn't today. And engine leveller works bloody well too, they're pretty cheap too.

Thanks Sandman, I just had a good look at it, you are right it's welded.I loved my old Camaros, 4 bolts front panel comes off, easy access. Anyway first thing I've decided when it all came out is definitely get the gearbox rebuild. It just looks old. There is a local shop that does change over on M20 fully rebuilt for $850.My car will be a cruiser so no need to spend extra $ on M21. I ll check the engine tomorrow, hopefully a set of fresh gaskets, and rear seal will take care of it.If I find more issues, I ll get it fully rebuild as well.

Can't you just lean on the GB and maneuver it out? I've pulled 4L straight sixes with trans attached, out of short engine bays before. I have a pit which means you have plenty of clearance underneath to tilt the engine and trans right back. I imagine if you were using ramps it might be a little trickier.

You might have trouble with the clutch fork catching the intermediate shaft, when putting it back in....
