My wife's 90 y/old pop does this with his 1920's Whippet.

Fantastic.

I hope I get to 90 and if I do, I would love to still be able to go out into the shed and appreciate the cars even if I can't drive them.

To be able to wipe them down as well would be a huge bonus.

From personal experience, the VF firewall construction eliminated a huge problem for VE. Rust in the pedal plate behind the firewall insulation. That houses the steering and brake booster.

Interior finish on VF looks cheap, feels cheap. Too much chrome. Too busy. VE is simpler.

VF seats look nicer.

VE2 is the nicest front on a Commodore since the VH or a VC SLE.

VF has too much tech.

VE can be brought into the modern age with a smart headunit update.

HUD is soon to be retro fitable to anything with smart glasses on the horizon. Wear it on your face.

true but real muscle cars are ones built around the 70's they have the look, the sound and if done right the power.
all these new ones are like "plastic muscle" lol but i guess it all comes down to what you grew up with, my first car was a vh charger and i wish i never sold it lol because i have been searching for one for a while that is not punched to restore.

I had a real 70s muscle car.. a HT GTS 350 manual big tank bathurst version
I also have (still have) a variety of HSVs

the HSVs eat the GTS for all round performance, braking, handling, safety
but lack one thing... character

the HT throbbed rumbled wandered spat noise at you.. even better with a tankful
of Avgas on a Saturday. Miss that with my HSV ..

The HSV marketing-team who came-up with Gen-E & (more importantly) Gen-F are turning in their grave ... :)

Those are getting really rare on the used market. Not that I’m ever likely to buy one, but every few months I check CarSales, haven’t seen one in many many months. There were always a few around when we first bought the SSVR in 2015. Now I’ve typed that, I do wonder of that’s related to Faecebook Marketplace having gained some market-share, but I doubt people who read Faecebook are in the market for cars that’re worth more than a coupla hundred bucks.

oooh ... yeah to that :(
every time I see one for sale, I wince.
I sold mine to get into an XU1.. got $4 large
for it as a trade-in.

They now go for over $300 HUNDRED large!

Still.. it was FUN while I had it
(after the tailshaft recall fix happened that is)

and it was an amazing thing with a neat trick ! :D

It would go from idle 650rpm ..about 15mph
to 140mph (speedo indicated) at 6400 WITHOUT
changing gear. Get it rolling in 1st, slot it into 4th
back off the loud pedal until it rolled along at idle
then push the accelerator pedal down. It would chug
a bit then accelerate all the way to 140...
amazing.

Thankfully there were no speed limits in 1974s
on the open road :p

Be a lot of money tied-up in garaging and maintenance (those things loved a good rust) keeping a Monaro so long, though, if it’s the money part you’re considering. It’d be enjoyable, for sure, I doubt many of us wouldn’t enjoy cruising around in one; but the amount of money you’d have to have ploughed into keeping one would have been pretty hefty!

I get woulda-shoulda’s, I do it myself, but it probably was a reasonable decision. As a f’rigzample; I’d kinda like an ‘86 Corolla Twin Cam again, but the one I sold for my Liberty RS in ‘94 was in the Trading Post within a year with “rebuilt engine” so I suspect I dodged a bullet with that one despite taking what I thought was a low sale-price at the time. :)
