Yeah, the point of Redline over SS-V was the performancey stuff.don't forget the series 1 Redline also got FE3 and Brembo's.
Vic Police ordered a shipload of MY17 SS's, and I still see VF HWP cars getting around.
A lot of Holdens are being pensioned off now as the Vicpol fleet ramps are acquisition of VW (Passat, Golf, Tiguan, Amarok), turbo prop Beamers, Hyundais and KIAs.
Its been longer than 3 years now, and there is still a few on the road.
SSS to SSV to Redline had various equipment upgrades, pretty standard practice.
Re, OP questions, this old car advice page seems oto sum it up well. Apart from the running gear, SS and SV6 were identical, SSV and redline got more kit and toys.

Seems to suggest for sub redline VFs brakes were the same, unless performance brakes were specced?
Only MY17 SSV was dropped from the line up. There is a series 2 SSV. There were many differences between the three models and there was a market for them all. MY17 models were culled due to ease of manufacture. Calais V and SSV Redline had the same interiors except heated seats.
The redline has a red 'V' on the other side with 'Series 2' written on itDidn't realise the SSV lasted until MY17. Anyways all the series 2 LS3's I see dont have the SSV or SSV Redline badges the series 1 had. Maybe Holden ran out of them and just used SS badges on all models?
