Hi guys, first time post. This has probably been discussed a thousand times, but can anyone tell me what size fittings i need if i want to run “AN” style fittings and rubber lines for the transmission cooler in the rad? thanks

You won’t use rubber lines with AN fittings.

I’m going to be doing similar and from what I make of it, it’s -6AN or -8AN?

Then there’s the modification of the existing line to accept the AN fittings. That will require some specialist tools.

I'd take your existing fittings down to your local hydraulic hose specialist and talk to them and see what they have. Once you have an answer please post it here :)

You can get pipe to AN end converters, and AN to barb fittings, but you would just flare the steel hose itself and hose clamp the rubber line on.

Does the radiator have barb fittings on it for the cooler?

Think he means something like this but then with an AN->barb fitting afterwards. This one doesn't use flairs either, but I don't think the tools are that pricey either anymore.

I think hose clamps on transmission lines were abandoned after VS series 1?

Yes they threw 'simple and easy' out the window and went for complicated and expensive , now its a circus just getting a simple hose connected....

It was never difficult. You can even purchase the screw in fittings from suppliers like bearing wholesalers or pirtek. Trans cooler kits (vehicle specific) come with the fittings too. Even better, you can fit a factory trans cooler with factory hoses.

The later design is much better - they don’t tend to leak unlike the early style.

Somewhere during the VS run they changed to threaded flare fitting.
