Hey guys,

so this week I’ve noticed that tick tick tick only slight coming from the 5.7 LS1 and can assume the lifters are on the way. I’ve got a quote of $3500 to do the job which seems excessive.

Can anyone let me know of a mechanic and rough cost if they have had it done before .

Located in Melbourne city

thanks in advance

That sounds reasonable to me. I would pull the engine take the cam out and check the cam bearing clearances, they have a cam bearing issue which leads to the lifters failing.

If I'm not mistaken you can get head and cam packages with new lifters and other things, drive in drive out for $3500, so $3500 for lifters only seems just a tad high

lifters only cost 240-300 so its $3200 in labor/materials to take the heads off/on bit crazy

Yea but you forget the cost of gaskets, head bolts, coolant and oil then you have to remember they won't use ebay lifters so there's more expense and that price likely includes a cam shaft too. There's more to the job than just lifters if it was that easy everyone would be mechanics.

Well if they can do that for 3500 I would go there. But sorry I'm very skeptical of that lol. It's like some bloke that called the radio the other day and was talking about how his investment advisor can get him 12% returns. Yea ill stick with the solid 4% investing in propper stocks.
$3500 for two heads and all the rest installed is like paying a plumber $20 an hour with no call out fee. If you can get that rate and it's not the Indian bloke with the sign on his ute saying "You've dealt with the cowboys now try the indian" then get your drains replaced.
Again if you can get that head and cam package for that price and it's not a cowboy or indian fitting it up then go for it.

I'm very skeptical though.
