Hi I'm not a mechanic but have learned over the past 40 years or so, About a year ago I did the timing chains in my svz ute that done 108,000 kms, Like everyone I was looking for the locking tools too, So I thought I would give it a go without them and it worked, The cams sit were you want them to sit was pretty easy Cheers

Is there a easy way to find out if the chain has stretched

Or is there a link to show me how to check it?
yes the 1st thing i did was take the drivers side rocker cover off, Take out all of the spark plugs, Have someone hold a long handle screwdriver on top of piston one, Turn the motor clock wise with a socket and ratchet on the crank while watching the inlet valves opening on the down stoke and closing on the up stoke, If the inlet valves dont open just as the piston starts moving down the chains are most likely stretched, Mine started to open when the piston was half way down the bore giving me a low compresson 30 to 60 psi
