There's a bloke in SA who's seriously bad at low speed drivability with camshafts in auto's, has been tuning LS engines since 2006 and he's still no good at it!

He wouldn't happen to be located around Burton by some chance, near a big caravan sales yard?

Or is he located near a wreckers and 2 scrap yards around Burton?

His manual camshaft tunes aren't great down low but a little better than auto's. Stalling in gear and backfiring through the intake accelerating from low RPM and surging at light throttle and of course pushing on the brakes with high idle speeds are the general issues. Typically tells the customer they've fitted the wrong camshaft as the excuse for tuning deficiency.

Mine originally was that bad on cold start it would hunt for quite a while. Put it in gear and it would either stall or hunt as you drove along.
Other times it would rev it balls off on startup, then stall when the revs dropped
At certain revs when driving it would surge like crazy. plus the fumes were that bad you'd need a gas mask... Got to the point where I hated driving it.

Spending a bit of time getting the tune right made a world of difference. Hasn't been back on a dyno for 6 years.

Exactly as you describe is my experience with tunes done by people who aren't good at it.

Sounds like an old 202 on choke
