like my mazda - "lifetime, service free transmission". until of course it blows up. Apparently cars aren't supposed to make it past 100,000 kilometres.

Here's a video which goes through the steps of checking a used car:

Otherwise, make sure the seller seems genuine, take it for a comprehensive test drive and if you're ready to buy, do a 3rd party inspection... If the seller objects to the test drive and/or the 3rd party inspection, walk away as it's a major red flag...

Also make sure the engine is cold when you inspect the car, as a warm engine can hide many things, such as a rattling timing chain, which is still a problem on the VF's...

Lastly, consider how long you're going to keep this car for, as a well maintained lower kilometre VE Series 2 Calais might be a better bet...

At 13 years old when twisting the throttle on my motocross bike engine off in the shed, my old man would tell me to leave the throttle alone, it's one less time it'll work before it breaks! The components on a high km car are closer to breakage than a lower km car with less wear and tear is the bottom line really. Instead of paying 28.5k VF2 SS with 250,000km's, I bought an VF2 SV6 with 28,000km's after a good clean and polish still looks virtually brand new! Although it isn't the benchmark V8, it's much better value for money than a half-stuffed SS with a heap of km's on it.

Yip that’s a load of bollocks mate, they’re serviceable and should be serviced too, done my Mazdas automatic transmission recently after never having been done and the fluid was disgusting to say the least

VF SSV Wagon & VF SV6 Wagon
How quick it will do the 1/4 mile (400 metres). ;)
Not as fast as it used to.
Or what the seller will be telling you.

2015 VF Calais V 6.0 | 2013 VF Calais V V6 Wagon
I went and looked today.

Short story is i ran….

The interior was filthy and stunk, the owner had done lots of little mods.

I will look at a wagon tomorrow with 90,000kms. It’s a lot more at $19-20k however.

Wondering if i should wait a while?

Is it a Calais like the one you looked at? If that 90,000km car is what you'd like, I'd say look at and make sure it presents well with service history, etc...

It’s a Calais V, but in sports wagon form.

Honestly you are the only one that can answer whether to wait or to jump in feet first.

Me personally wait for what I consider is the one that suits my needs and budget

I'd look at it then if it suits your budget and needs, and is reasonably priced... Your profile says that you own a VF 6.0 Calais V, are you looking at another Calais V, but V6?
