Thanks for all the advice/replies folks...I’m well aware of the potential for sun damage here in Qld...hadn’t thought as much about the mechanics greasy mits though ...so thanks again for the tips.

For cleaning I use Zaino Z9 – leather soft spray cleaner

For protecting against the sun I use 303 Products Aerospace Protectant

If the steering wheel is looked after and given a wipe over now and then it won't have a build up that requires much cleaning so just a little bit of 303 Products Aerospace Protectant is all it needs each time I wash the car.

Colourlock mild or strong leather cleaner with their leather protector is the best I have found (I hate shiny leather steering wheels!) Autoglym is good, haven't tried Bowdens.

Any ideas on how to prevent / reverse the frictional polishing that happens on leather steering wheels ?

Yeah SSV steering wheels seem to be the worst for getting shiny.
