Much safer bet to pay $300 for a new one rather than risk ruining the one you have now.
In the scheme of new steering wheels its chump change.
Year ago they were 180,now 300,6 months down the track 380....

see above - colourlock strong cleaner and sponge applicator - its not friction, its oils from your hands - no matter how clean they are!

My leather steering wheel looked like it was a veteran of 124 bondage themed porn videos. There was some serious grot build up on it.
Took 3hrs of detailed scrubbing of it using Mothers APC and a thick paint brush. Then careful use of a bag of microfibres that pulled the schmutz out.
I did the same with the seats.

Now I’ve always used leather purposed products but after decades of horticulture and landscaping I’ve got hands like a brickie and use lots of palmers coco butter to try keep them soft and supple. Then realised that leather is just skin and it puts the lotion on the skin or it gets the hose again.
So I tried out the concept and gave myself an accidental bar.

I also realise I somehow did not document the steering wheel clean in the thread so the seats will suffice for the concept. That steering wheel is still softer than a puppy’s tummy.

I use Bowden's leather guard once a week and the steering wheel still looks brand new from the box. Still has that rough textured feel too. Also helps to always make sure your hands are clean before getting in the car.

All this talk of bondage themed porn movies and accidental bars is interesting:)

With so many products available to buy, there's no reason why a steering wheel or an entire car for that matter cannot look like it did from the showroom floor even after 20 years of daily driving. If you're genuinely passionate and not lazy, and park in the right spots it's possible.
