All due respect, but it doesn't really matter which state you live in.....There are some shocking roads through out this country and it doesn't matter if you have 205/65X15's fitted, it will still rattle your fillings loose. The best question to ask in this instance is, what are the roads like in the area you most frequent, which then can help decide what size wheels to fit
Because the tyre size regulations differ greatly interstate. Hence the response mentioning a convenient alternative to going 18” with a Redline in NSW, above.

Sorry mate, but your wrong with that statement....All tyre size regulations are identical throughout Australia and have been for 15 years or so....The reason being is, a tyre shop is responsible for ensuring a tyre/s fitted to a vehicle is legal, otherwise if the vehicle is involved in an accident anywhere in this country, and the tyre shop is found to have fitted the incorrect tyre/s to the car, they are responsible for all damages....They are also responsible to ensure the car is roadworthy with tyre/s....Again, if the car is defected as a result of an incorrectly fitted tyre/s, the tyre shop is responsible for the costs of replacing the tyre/s and removing the defect for the tyre/s.

Why do you think you can have your tyre/s replaced anywhere in Australia, regardless of where the car is registered?

Yeah well things have definitely changed in the past 15 years.
In NSW the relevant document is the Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme Declaration of Modification or Class of Modification Order 2013 (the Order) contains a list of modifications that require certification.
The VSI No. 6 is intended to clarify technical content of that Order. It provides examples and tips when modifying a light vehicle, and will assist in determining whether your vehicle requires certification.
Specifically vehicle modifcations - requirements for larger wheels not requiring certification - in NSW is scheduled under TSI 6, revision 3, 2013.
There are people who really need your advice searching for a good ride on 18” rims in another thread. Go sick ‘em.

Can't argue with an internet expert in this area.....I'll remember next time I get an interstate car in, to make sure I check the relevant rego authority rules, before fitting a tyre/s to their car, so I don't find myself unemployed because of it

Ah QLD, yes you can’t get decent sidewall profile unless you go down to 18”.
In NSW on an SSV Redline you can run 265/45R19 rear and 245/50R19 front, good profile for comfort and performance with the forged 19s.

Not starting a pissing contest between you two as ive got kidney stones and I'm out of that race before it starts...

But how do you legally get the bigger sidewalls in your state without a mod permitted Speedo recalibration that's engineer approved?

From memory 3℅ Rolling diameter change either way is all that's legal across Australia according to the adrs.

If a car rolled in here wrong profiles no mod permit we'd instantly fail it on an inspection every day of the week.

7% In NSW as long as speedo is recalibrated. See doc mentioned above.
Means Redline can have 265/45 rear and 245/50 front.

Yeah hence getting at the Speedo recalibration mod permit. Who do you get to sign off on it or you dont need to the inspector just needs to take your word for it?

Over here for bigger tyres or smaller tyres that puts your Speedo out over 3% you need a cert to say that the Speedos recalibrated and you need to change the tyre placard.

Unfortunately in S.A, there is no manditory inspections of cars....If a car is unregistered, you walk in and register it, no inspection....So what tends to occur often is, cars are modified in some way shape or form, legally or illegally and driven around. So in this particular instance of what you're saying, it's a case of hoping a policeman doesn't pull you over and notice it and send you for a complete inspection...Otherwise getting the necessary approval, in this instance, I'm unsure where that is done.

That's ****. Good thing NSW is not like that. There would be even more road fatalities.
