Mobil 1 at 7,500km intervals myself, and I ask the dealer to also put Mobil 1 in for scheduled services.

I haven't seen any evidence of GF-5 being inferior for engine life. Infact just about everything I have read points to the contrary.
GM insists on Dexos1 5w30 being used in its engines so I would rather be safe than sorry instead of having a potential warranty claim denied due to using a non specified oil.
I actually ordered in this oil as the Holden dealership I bought the car from apparently doesn't use it, it was no problem, and it's just peace of mind for me really, as is the 1000 k oil change

My local dealer uses AC Delco branded oil, which is blended in Aus by Fuchs.

I was thinking of changing the oil at 1000km service just to get rid of any metal particles following the break in. Yes maybe i'm being too fussy, i'm OK with the label, but is there any reason why this is a bad idea?

I just asked this question today and was told it wasn't necessary as the newer engines don't have the metal particles. I may be wrong as I am no mechanic. I did read that someone changed his oil at about 1500km and it was dirty/black? Maybe change it every 5000km, not the recommended 9m/15000km, not that I will be doing 15000km in the first 9 months.

I was getting my Captiva serviced at my local Holden dealer, and I informed them that I just purchased a Redline and asked about what oil they use in their Redlines specifically. They stated that Holden recommend a 5w/30 but they put in Castrol 5w/40 Dexos2 fully synthetic oil in all of their Redlines. The person I spoke to didn't scratch his head or ask someone else about what oil to use, he knew what oil to put in. I looked up the oil and it conforms with GMs specifications. Now I have to decide at what intervals I want to change the oil o_O

VFII SSV Redline Ute
Bought my 2016 VF2 SSVR ute with 80 km on the clock back in Feb this year. Now it has done 5,000 km. Booked in for a oil/filter change at my local garage, I supply oil and filter. I usually change oil/filter myself at 7,500 km between the scheduled 15,000 km services, but I am getting too old to crawl under the ute now a day. Also because it is a "new" engine and the ute was made in June last year, better to change oil/filter at 5,000 km this time. Using 2 x Nulon 5w30 fully synthetic $39.99/5ltr. from Costco and Ryco z663 filter $20.45 from Supercheap. It should be all right for the cold Canberra winter until the next scheduled service at 15,000 km.

Why the non genuine filter? The genuine filters are cheap as chips.

I'm using Penrite 10w50 at any rate as mine's cammed and has a DOD delete. The heavier oil was recommended by my tuner due to the higher pressure on the valvetrain (mainly the lifters) with the double valve springs.

I don't understand why they would be using Dexos2 since it's designed specifically for diesel engines and Dexos1 is the oil for petrol engines. Refer below:
