Faster acceleration, as said a tune on the trans would be needed as it will help with the quick gear change in 1st.
What the whole point is, is increasing torque.
The torque increase helps with acceleration.
If you're just cruising then no it's pointless, and 2.92s will be fine.
I dont get how going to 4.11 increases acceleration. You are negating the entire first gear at that point.
A 3.27 with first gear is better than 4.11 starting in 2nd mathematically speaking...

Gearing is about torque multiplication.
Wheel speed is a side effect of the torque multiplication.

It's like taking off in 4th gear in a manual, the engine doesn't feel too grunty if it'll take off at all with such tall gearing. Technically the lower the diff ratio, the greater the torque multiplication but there's a limit in relation to the engine, chassis and trans ratios where a lower diff ratio will slow the car down over the 1/4 mile. I think a few tried 3.7's in VF's and found it slower than 3.45's over the 1/4 mile.

And wheel speed is 'controlled'.

3.45 in an auto and 3 9 in a manual is the sweet spot IMHO. 3.45s come in gen too which means you don't need to get them polished. 3.9s work best if they are polished. Very few diff builders have a polisher though so most probably don't do them.

HSV determined early in the E series that that the best 'all-round' final drive ratios for the LS3 manuals were 3.7 and auto's, 3.27.

yep the 3.7 with the HSV close ratio TR6060 1-5 and 6th drops off a cliff is the best, having driven a mates VE SSV manual the actual gear ratios are totally different even tho 6th ends up at the same rpm for 100kph the 1-5 is too far apart felt just wrongly geared

Yea that's an all-round combo, the OP said it's a weekend car and he's not concerned with drivability.
The HSV ratios would be as you said all-round, so mum can take the kids to the shops ect.

What revs is the HSV with manual 3.7 doing at 100 in 6th? I think the sweet spot is about 2000 if your cammed.
