The Victorian EV tax on kms driven failed in the Federal Court. Then NSW abandoned a similar proposed tax.
Only the Fed Govt can impose a similar tax equivalent to the fuel excise revenue raising.
That is unlikely to happen as the present Labor Govt is dead set on getting everyone into an EV at present, and various barrow pushers want the sale of ICE vehicles to be outlawed by 2035 (?). So any hint of a tax would be contrary to the Labor current EV policies.
IF ...... big IF ........... they get returned at the next election, and the one after, expect a light bulb idea soon after that, when the general population is deemed to have forgotten what is being spouted in 2024.
They will wait until the critical mass is achieved and the economics of EV ownership are better than ICE ownership. Once that happens they will introduce EV taxes.
