Guide for standard SS brake prices second-hand

Thanks all, sounds like I might just keep them, unless a mate needs 'em or something.

Guide for standard SS brake prices second-hand

Ages ago I upgraded the brakes on my base level VF2 SS to Brembos and have kept the old brakes ever since, thinking it would be good to have the standard items the car came with. However have now decided to offload them and have no idea where to start in terms of second hand price, or whether...

    Tyres

100% on the RE003s. And given you can regularly pick them up on 'buy 3 get one free' promos, a bargain. I'll buy them over and over again, they're magic for everyday driving. One thing I noticed on cheaper brands (or the ones that were on the wheels I bought as part of a package deal), they...

    Touring Tyre Recommendations

I'm trying Bridgestone REO03s atm and really happy with them so far. Can't talk to longevity as only done 10k on them, but if you can pick them up for a buy-three-get-one-free deal which come up quite often (how I bought mine) they're good value. So far nice and quiet and better grip than what...

Different spark plug gap for performance mods?

Is there a general rule in terms of needing to change spark plug gap greater/lesser once you've modified your motor - specifically head and cam package? No changes to ignition system in terms of output, purely heads/mild cam and associated supporting mods. Just wondering if with the extra...

VF SS Cold Air Intake options - my take on them...

Just to add to the discussion (I have VCM), the other consideration for me is extra care when washing. I may be pedantic, but I throw a folded plastic bag into the intake to prevent accidently getting water down there. I also take care to avoid directly spraying water down there obviously, but...

Ute and sedan front floor mats same?

I need to replace the driver's side front floor mat and was wondering if front sedan floor mats are the same size as ute floor mats? Reason being, I only need fronts, given my rears are perfect, and can't find an option just to buy front mats in the variant I'm looking at. But you can buy them...

    Water in OTR intake

Glad you raised it Ron, as I've wondered the same, not so much when it's raining, but more when washing the car. Not sure if I'm going overboard but I put a plastic shopping bag between the otr and the front of the car - slip it down the front, every time I wash it.

New remote batteries changed headlight behaviour

My remote fob battery let go this week, no warning on the dash like I've seen others get re low battery levels. One morning it just stopped working. Have replaced the battery and it's all working, however I've noticed that everytime I unlock the car it puts the headlights on. It never did...

    VF SS first modifications

Don't overlook brake upgrades either if it's non-Redline. One of the biggest differences I noticed in driving the car was upgrading to the Brembos - reckon they should have come standard with them. Aside from that, posts above are all great advice.

SS VF Series 2 : Stock vs Tune/OTR power

Pop/overun is mainly in the tune (from my understanding - not an expert ). I had my car tuned by the same place as you and couldn't fault them. Personally, I wanted less pop and crackle, which is what I got in my tune. And based on some earlier posts in this thread (Eternity's post - correct me...

    New Headers Advice

This is pretty much bang on my experience. I have the same system, though with bimodals, and aside from the cold starts in a semi enclosed carport, it's easy to drive it quietly or loudly. At all normal speed limits can hardly hear the exhaust.

    Oil smell after oil change

Thanks for all the replies. Was pretty thorough re any spills/drips when I did the oil change as the previous oil smell was on my mind when doing it, but put up on stands again today to double check and all spotless. In terms of the oil used - I have no idea what the dealer used, but I've just...

    Oil smell after oil change

Every time I get/do an oil change I get an oil smell when coming to a stop, both through the aircon vents and with the window open. Can also smell it through the gap between the bonnet and front mudguard when I've come to a stop. However, you open the bonnet and you can't smell it. It seems to...

Brake pads that are not too dusty ?

I've had a good run with the DBA Street Performance line of pads. Comparatively minimal brake dust and no squeal.

    Brake pads VF Brembo

Wondering if it makes a difference country driving compared to city driving? I'm in Mildura and compared to Melbourne city driving (used to live in Melbourne) there'd be a lot less brake application I'm guessing due to less stop-start traffic, and possibly less road grime due to not as much...

    Brake pads VF Brembo

Thanks mate - wanted something a bit different. Pic was to show lack of dust, and should have put in there that at the time this was two weeks after last wash (slack!)

    Brake pads VF Brembo

I've got the DBA Street series and no complaints. No squeal so far and minimal brake dust - I upgraded from standard SS brakes and haven't noticed a difference in dust build up at all. Can't speak on performance compared to standard Brembo or other pads given, as I said, I've upgraded from...

20" Baretta wheels on VF II

This was my experience as well. I went from standard SS (non Redline) rims to HF20s on an already lowered car and noticed minimal difference in ride quality. Love the way the 20s look over the Redlines, which I was looking at at the time - certainly not knocking the Redline rims, just my take...

Thinking of putting the stock springs back in my VFII Redline

I've lowered my base model SS using King springs and Monroe GT Sport shocks - and I've noticed this combo criticised a fair bit in terms of the Kings springs being harsh and the Monroe shocks being unreliable - but tbh I haven't had an issue after more than 20,000ks and would do it again over...

Squeaky Brembo brakes on SSVR S2

Sorry about the wait - got pulled away for work unexpectedly and put me back a weekend. Brakes fitted up yesterday. I'm still bedding in the pads, but already can tell the difference. Like Cuda said, lot less pedal pressure required. And the braking power ramps up so quickly as you apply more...

Squeaky Brembo brakes on SSVR S2

Diggin up an old thread here, but about to do a Redline-spec Brembo upgrade to my base model SS and wondering if the Redline brakes came with shims standard and were replaced with different shims to stop the squealing? Of if the shims mentioned in the posts above were an additional part? ie...

    MY15 SSV PHNTYM

G'day mate, love the mods you've done and how your car has turned out - it's awesome. Just a quick query re your brake package - did you end up getting them engineered? And if so, what the key issues they were looking for?

VF SSV Redline exhaust options - opinions wanted.

Interested to hear people's thoughts on the Magnaflow option. I've had Magnaflows on a few cars, mainly older V8s and they always sounded great - but curious to see how they sound with the LS.

New 3'' Manta exhaust, does it quieten down after carboning up

From what I've read and what I've been told when researching my mods, if you're staying NA and not going stupid with cam/head upgrades there's no real benefit. Apparently the smaller headers will also give you a little more bottom end with no noticeable difference up top without other mods, but...

New 3'' Manta exhaust, does it quieten down after carboning up

Hehe, can certainly understand how it would! As I said earlier, I only leave them closed for early starts. When I leave work at the end of the day with a stone cold motor and the bimodals open, the rear view mirror vibrates for a little bit until the revs drop as the motor warms up. Sounds...

New 3'' Manta exhaust, does it quieten down after carboning up

Sorry about the wait coming back to you re this - haven't been on for most of the week. Definitely makes a difference when you shut them at idle - more of a difference than when you open/close the bimodals with the stock exhaust. With them open at idle, its fair bit louder, in a good way, than...
