Hi, I have a 2010 SV6 Ute and was thinking about swapping a V8 into it. I was looking at the L98. Does the 6L50 automatic gearbox fit or would I need a 6L80/ 6L90? Or is there an adapter plate to make them fit?

You need a 6L80e.

The transmission will be the least of your problems.

Look for a factory V8. They can be had for well under $20k. You will be near that doing a V8 swap into a factory 6 cyl.

I would only be spending about 8k on a motor with box. I will be fitting myself so shouldn't matter too much about labour price. Only bought the ute for 3k

Dude. Those days are 35 years in the past.
You will need a donor wreck.

You’ll need engine harness, possibly the interior harness. You’ll need to check pin outs on the engine harness where it connects in the engine bay.

You will need an advanced scan tool to get all the modules talking with correct data. Any modules flashed with a different VIN will leave you with a no start condition.

You will be building a new car pretty much.

You need a lot more than motor and box. Trying to save you a world of hurt. But hey don't listen to me. Be good if you start a build thread I and a few others would like to actually see a thread where someone has followed through and actually made it work for $8k.
