just my 2c, i know its going a bit off topic but here in perth there is a blue wrx that has been modified alot and i mean alot, it is an undercover street race sting car. every time were in freo you see it behind sum rice burner that just got stung, so the cops do have modified cars just not commy's and falcons

never seen it and i used to be in freo 3 or 4 times a week. Did you actually see it with flashing lights on? or just what you heard? And how do you know its 'highly modified'? Did your cousin meet a bloke at the pub who has a mate who knows a guy who walks a coppers dog who drives it?

i cant see the coppers in perth having a bombed rex considering they sold off all the V8 powered commos and falcons as they were too powerfull, thirsty on fuel etc and have gone solely for 6's. im the same as ablove, never heard or seen anything like that here??

Pajero LWB Wagon, Power/economy what's that ???
V8s are still used in WA in small numbers, nearly all patrol cars are sixes though.
There are at least two WRXs getting around with plain clothes pilots.
Both white but there could be a third blue one.
The Police here have used some interesting cars over the years.
Cordia Turbos (four cops in Hawaiian shirts), Galant VR4, WRXs and many more.
In the early 80s there were a spate of bank robberies and the Police formed a "Super Response" team who had six XE 351 manuals at their disposal. These cars were something special and when they left on business you could here them all through the city. To see and hear them travel down Riverside Drive at high speed was a site to behold. These cars were all heavily modded and built by Police Force Mechanics.
Some believe that the Police are contracted to only use Holden or Ford vehicles. This is not true and indicates the manufacturer has the control which is not the case at all. They can use anything they like.
When the cars are delivered nothing is done to the bulk of the vehicles.
There are some however that are used for specific purposes that are modded, serviced and repaired in house ("never" worked on outside the force). At the end of their use by date (which is longer than for the standard cars) the external mods are removed before sale at auction or the vehicle may be destroyed.
People used to get down to the auction very early so they could go over them all in the hope of finding one of these cars. Compliance plates were identical but supposedly it was where and how the radio had been fitted, as they used a different radio, plus a few other things I can't recall which indicated if it was not the normal pursuit/patrol vehicle.

So I agree regular patrol vehicles are not chipped at all but some specialised vehicles may be but do not leave with anything but the stock chip.

why would they need a heavily modified WRX if they r just going to pull them over???...smoke them over the first 100metres then reef the anchors on and let the sirens go...i have heard of the done up WRX's before, but they still make no sense...

I've heard the same things in Vic. Apparently theres a Yellow VL some TMU have going around to entrap people into street racing, same with a Yellow BA

Out Point Cook way i know they used to have marked Rex's as cop cars, and they have a Ford Territory aswell.

They just pull alongside, either at the lights or in motion, and if you want to race you go for it, they don't control your behaviour and they are not making you race. That's a decision you make at the time. If you floor it they will chase and pull you over. No form of entrapment at all.

If you pull up next to a fully fitted out Police car with all the lights and sirens you are not going to race it so why race any car, just assume they are all Police cars and drive how you should be driving anyway.
No I'm not innocent of racing in the past but if I tried to race a car and got pulled over that would be my fault as I made the decision to race.

I reckon that's bullshit. Police can't make you race, unless they hold a gun to your head and physically make you race. And apparently cops are allowed to do it here, there are no entrapment laws..

I don't agree with cops doing that, but I don't think they're making anyone do anything..

I get people trying to drag me all the time, I don't bite. Only for one reason, the potential trouble I could get into..

VY Exec 3.8L Sedan 9C1 Pack
To settle confusion... Below is what is involved in a 9C1 Police Pack, it does NOT involve ANY chip... All geared towards higher safety and better handling...

Commodore 9C1 Pack (Police Pack)
All 9C1 pack Commodores have the following above what is on standard Commodores: ABS, FE2 Sports Suspension, LSD, 15" x 7" rims, 225 x 60 R15 tyres, Passenger's Airbag, Sump protector plate, additional Wiring Loom (supplying power for lights siren etc.), modified Transmission Gate (can manually select 2nd gear in auto box without depressing top of gear stick), Interior Dome Light with Incorporated Map Reading lights (as per Calais), Interior Lights Isolation Switch (isolates glovebox light, boot and interior dome and map reading lights), Front brake pads are Bendix Ultimate, Rear Brake Pads are standard "Akibono" made by PBR. A larger higher capacity battery with 450 CCA and 115 min RC. The Speedo has 2 km/h increments marked. Any VT/VX/VY Commodore can have the "Police Mode" digital speed indication feature enabled under the Speedo dial with Tech 2 at a dealership. Takes about 3 minutes. In doing this, the vehicle looses the Speed Alert feature. 9C1 gets 2 horns, the standard 400hz horn plus a more powerful 450hz horn.

No chips, no performance bits... Mine also has an OTRCAI, unknown whether this was an option or not. *shrug*

Absolutely correct for Holden prepared cars (majority of cars) but not all vehicles used are prepared by Holden. All that come up for sale after their use by date do not have anything but the stock chip though some may have had a different chip whilst in service.

These cars may have a different chip they may not but an answer cannot be given with details supplied by Holden as they do not know how some of the cars are prepared once delivered to the Police.
