hey guys,

I need to replace the 3.0 LFW engine in my 2011 VE Berlina sportswagon.

Do I need to replace it with another LFW engine?

or will either the 3.0 LF1, The 3.6 LLT, or the 3.6 LFX engines fit?

Cheers

You can't do it without replacing the associated electronics, that means the engine specific LY7/LLT/LFX ECU (they'll all have a different tune) and then getting the ECU linked to the car. Even then there's no guarantee it will work, people have enough issues swapping the same motor over.

Short answer no, long answer with a lot of dicking around maybe.

I have no practical experience doing this, but I'd have to agree, stick to the same engine type. you'll probably be opening a can of worms otherwise.

Yep, you would essentially need a donor car from an auction so you can swap the harnesses, computers, and sundries bits that are not the same.

The engines are the same external size, mounts etc. Internals and associated electronics are different.

It won't be plug and play.

My Nephew and I recently swapped his LXF that seized, with a s/hand LXF,
Short story,
Found one at a wreckers,
Picked it up,
Careful disconnected the loom on the old one,
Pulled the old one out, [Saturday]
Cleaned up the Engine Bay, etc, etc
Put the replacement in, [Sunday]
Connected the loom up,
connected the hardware up [exhaust etc etc]
Put all the fluids in it,
Fired it up the next day.
and its running like silk.

Morel of the story, replace it with what was in it,
then you don't have the Tune, Settings & ECU issues.
