My sons vf black edition wagon has front parking sensors standard but after he owned it for a while noticed the passenger side front bumper /grille one was damaged and hanging loose on its wiring behind the bumper and no mounting bracket …so we bought the small plastic bracket and fitted it with a new sensor and plugged it up….it all fitted ok. It’s now started throwing up a ”service parking assist” warning, is this just a code that needs to be cleared with a diagnostic tool before they start working again or would it be a faulty replacement? We have already tried disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes but no success.

you can clear the code to re-enable park assist but if it comes back then you still have an issue with the sensor array and park assist will be disabled again.

make sure the new sensor you put in is the exact same part number as the one that came out because they may look the same but they can have different part numbers.
inspect all other sensors on the array for visible dents/damage on them as it will cause them to fail.

if you have the wrong part or they are damaged it will keep throwing errors and disabling park assist.

simple dents like this can cause them to fail

We put the old sensor back on and the system worked ..looks like the new sensor had something wrong with it …didn’t have a part number but it was brand new and claimed to be for a vf front sensor .from eBay seller

if you look on the side of the sensor it should have writing with an 8 digit part number, something like 92420636, if there is no writing then it is some sort of aftermarket part.
it could be a vf front sensor but just not the right part number which will cause the system to shut down because an invalid part is detected
